Default Wifes Laptop lost all WiFi connections after upgrade to 15.3

She didn't want me to do it, and after 2 weeks of trying to fix it, I wish I hadn't!
I can connect by LAN, but don't have 60 foot LAN cable to go from the router to to where to laptop resides. Also LAN takes it being 'laptop' EH?
It won't let me use the onboard 2.4 WiFi!
EVERYTHING WiFi is not working. I believe over the time of trying to fix it(with Sauerlands gracious help), something took away the systems to actually recognize the WiFI's are there.

I think these are in the proper order.

Default Re: Wifes Laptop lost all WiFi connections after upgrade to 15.3

A lot of information, but I really need to get her laptop back working with the WiFI dongle.(the onboard is very slow.
She is using my laptop (which needs a serious cleaning and a LOT of quieting down for her to use very long at a time).NO! we can't afford new machines! would like to have newer, but on low income budget, nearly impossible.

I should add that is is a CSM (legacy setup) machine, and with Win10 on another partition, it'd be darned hard to change to UEFI! Unless we are willing to get rid of Win10, but not yet!

TIA, for any and all help!

Here is a cheap wifi dongle (USB 2.0) that I have on a bunch of old laptops running openSUSE 15.3.

If you live in SW Missouri - I have a dozen in my closet for emergencies - I can give you one tomorrow - They work with Windows XP thru Windows 10 - Have not tried Windows 11 yet.

A few months ago someone gave me a link for another user's machine from his repo. Try his repo for a driver - it fixed my friends laptop.

    OpenSUSE 15.3 with VirtualBox VM's (XP, 10, 11, Ubuntu MATE 22.04, OpenSUSE 15.3, Tumbleweed)
    Pi4 with OpenSUSE 15.3
Unix since 1974 (pdp-11, Interdata, AT&T, Tandy, Convergent, Sun, IBM, NCR, and HP)
Linux since 1995 (Mandrake, Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE)

This is a Wlan-USB dongle which needs rtl8821cu.[/CODE]
Drivers for both onboard Wlan and Wlan-USB dongle are installed if I am to believe YaST.
    rtl8188ee.ko for onboard Wlan
and rtl8811cu for the Wlan-USB dongle.

So I am still perplexed as to why I can't set up a valid WIFI connection for either of them?

    Hi
I don't see anywhere you have checked if the device(s) is/are just blocked (soft or hard).....

    Code:
    su -
    rfkill list

Default AW: Wifes Laptop lost all WiFi connections after upgrade to 15.3

I would delete all rtlwifi_new-extended packages because the driver is in Leap 15.3 inside the Kernel:
    Code:
    modinfo rtl8188ee
    filename: /lib/modules/5.3.18-59.34-default/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/realtek/rtlwifi/rtl8188ee/rtl8188ee.ko.xz
    firmware: rtlwifi/rtl8188efw.bin
description: Realtek 8188E 802.11n PCI wireless
    license: GPL
    author: Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net>
    author: Realtek WlanFAE <wlanfae@realtek.com>
    author: zhiyuan_yang <zhiyuan_yang@realsil.com.cn>
    suserelease: SLE15-SP3
    srcversion: C3795E85871009EB41CD082
    alias: pci:v000010ECd00008179sv*sd*bc*sc*i*
    depends: rtlwifi,rtl_pci,mac80211
    supported: no
Maybe you have to install rtl8821cu-ueficert after this action when you use secure boot in Bios/UEFI.

And post as malcolm has asked.
