Question Touchpad not working after last update

Hi, I have an ideapad 16ACH6, after an update yesterday, kernel and lots of other software, the touchpad stopped working, buttons work, moving does not.

I tried to boot with the old kernel, same issue.

I have Tumbleweed 20210905, KDE plasma 5.22.5 and kernel 5.13.4/5.14.2

I have the fast boot and secure boot disabled.

I see the touchpad come up as

    Code:
    input: 06CB0001:00 06CB:CE78 Mouse as /devices/platform/AMDI0010:00/i2c-0/i2c-06CB0001:00/0018:06CB:CE78.0001/input/input2
    input: 06CB0001:00 06CB:CE78 Touchpad as /devices/platform/AMDI0010:00/i2c-0/i2c-06CB0001:00/0018:06CB:CE78.0001/input/input3

Touchpad was working without issues till the update yesterday

How to find what is the issue here?

Is trying Leap 15.3 an option for you? Searching for similar issues with Ideapads seems to turn up numerous threads and bug reports impacting various models, and it may well be that this regression needs to be reported.

    https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports

FWIW, I did find a github page explaining some problems (specific to certain models), and where it proposes building a standalone i2c-hid module (not suitable for new users)...
    https://github.com/coiby/standalone_i2c_hid
...but I only share it for interest sake. It may not even work for your hardware model. Ordinary users may need to wait for an upstream fix.

    Hi,

it is working in the Laptops EFI Bios and does somehow zoom out and rotate in Okular and i can do right ckick event with a long touch.
So it seems there is some driver issue. I'll see if i can do something with the githhub link.

    thanks

can't compile the module from github, "fatal error: linux/platform_data/i2c-hid.h: No such file or directory"
I do have the linux headers installed, since i could compile the rtw89 wifi driver

That means nothing in terms of Linux though unfortunately.

This may be an issue with the Xorg driver perhaps (rather than the low level kernel driver). I can only suggest a bug report really.

    thanks
    I wouldn't bother with that.

Some general debugging info in this Ubuntu Wiki page. That might help with producing more definitive information (for a bug report).
