Also, I appear to have no icons beside each app name in the application launcher. I noticed this happened when I uninstalled the one-click driver.

    Thanks, Malcolm.

s-dpi? I have not found its definition but was able to force a 96 dpi from settings - fonts, but to no appreciable avail.

If that is the problem (colour depth, below, may not be the problem), could you suggest how I could change that setting?

As an aside, I found, via application launcher - computer - info centre - graphical information - x-server:
    Dimensions: 1,920x1,200 pixels
    Resolution: 93x92 dpi
    depths (7): 24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32
    ...
number of colourmaps: min 1 max 1
    default colourmap: (blank)
default number of colourmap cells: 256.
    pre-allocated pixels black 0, white: 16,777,215

    Does this suggest anything?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi
I would have expected 32 not 7.... Hopefully a Plasma user can clarify as I don't run that desktop

Thanks, Malcolm. And I will continue my research, too, next weekend when I can ignore work, again. Thank you for all the help (and patience). Cheers. Mark.

    7 depths are available.

To OP: try to use OpenGL 3.1 for KDE compositing (default is 2.0). Or XRender or no compositing at all.

thanks for the replies, Malcolm and Svyatko.

Seems there may be something about the install options - I chose UK English / US Keyboard, and added a few apps. Invariably, the graphics were chunky-block. And this was a dual boot with Windows 10 (on separate drives).

I re-installed, which broke the dual boot, and without making any change to defaults, and voila, proper colours, albeit at a very low resolution. I will later today try to install the nVidia driver and see what that does.

I suspect it might be the dual boot arrangement which caused the colour depth problem. Alas, I have not been able to re-establish the dual boot, even after re-installing both Suse and Windows.

    Cheers.
    Mark
