New 470 nvidia drivers and Wayland

I just installed 470.57.02 drivers and I have xwayland 21.1.2-1.1 installed. When I log out and try to start a plasma/wayland session, I enter my password and I get returned to the login screen. Rinse and repeat. Is anyone getting wayland to work with the new nvidia drivers?

KDE Wayland + NVIDIA just does not work all that well in general. If you change to pure X does it work??

If you mean plasma/x11, then yes. I recently read that the 470 driver is supposed to work with the latest version of xwayland. And this is an improvement (somewhat) because before if I chose a wayland session, I would just get a black screen with no way to get out without rebooting.

Here’s the article I was referring to.

KDE is not ready too.

I just wanted to briefly update this post after visiting this KDE website: https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Wayland/Nvidia

Adding the recommended “nvidia-drm.modeset=1” lines to kernel parameters did allow me to start a Wayland/Plasma session with nvidia drivers but it was very buggy. There was no clock and the icons in the lower panel for Firefox, Konsole, Dolphin, and Settings all said “Terminal” when I moused over them. When I brought up the “add widgets” option, Firefox disappeared.

Still, this is first time I got Wayland to work with nvidia at all.

It’s not that bad. I am using the 470.63.01 driver.

Yes, I’ve installed those newer drivers since I made the first post. My experience above was from today.

It’s the starting point. We’ll have to wait if there will be an improvement in the future.
Remember plasma, it took a while to become what it is now.
