Thread: where is the Mozilla plugin directory?

  1. #1

Default where is the Mozilla plugin directory?

Hello. On some other Linux distributions, the Mozilla plugin directory is at /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. However, I'm unable to locate it on openSUSE Leap 15.2. So, where is the Mozilla plugin directory located on Mozilla Leap 15.2 (x86_64)? I've done a search for "mozilla/plugins", but this comes up empty.

For further clarity, and put in subsequent post due to missing the 10 minute editing threshold:
    application: Firefox 78.4.0esr (64-bit)
    distribution: openSUSE Leap 15.2 (x86_64)

Hi, welcome to the openSUSE forums

Normally: "/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins" or per user "~/.mozilla/plugins"

See this for how Firefox locates plugins: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...Finds_Plug-ins

Thanks. I don't see those directories, but perhaps I could add "~/.mozilla/plugins" and see.

The system directory is only created if it's needed. I don't have any "plugins" directories on this 15.2 / 82.0.3 system, but I don't use any plugins ...

Do you have any plugins installed? - From Firefox's address bar use:

    Code:
    about:plugins
The user plugin directory would only be used if you chose to manually install (or move) a plugin there, normally to restrict the use to only one specific user.

Edit: I'm not too sure what you're wanting to do... Have you plugin you wish to remove, or are you wanting to install one?

If you need plugins, not add-ons https://addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/ .

Looking at Svyatko's suggestion – there is no user plugin directory …
    • On this Leap 15.2 machine, “about:plugins” indicates the following directories for Firefox's default plugins –

    OpenH264-Videocodec:
    Code:
    ~/.mozilla/firefox/?????.default/gmp-gmpopenh264/1.8.1.1/
    Widevine Content Decryption Module
    Code:
    ~/.mozilla/firefox/?????.default/gmp-widevinecdm/4.10.1582.2/
There is however, an additional Firefox registration (text) file – “~/.mozilla/firefox/?????.default/pluginreg.dat”
    • Looking in that plugin registration, I note that, “/usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so” is registered but, it doesn't appear in the Plugins list “about:plugins” …

The answer is here: <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...urce=inproduct> – the NPAPI plugins are only activated on a “per web page basis” and, are no longer permanently activated – that support ended with Firefox version 69 …

Page "about:support" provides plentiful info about your Firefox installation. It is a good place to start your investigations. And it contains link to "about:plugins" page.
