What do you mean by music creation? Audacity will import almost any format sound and you can then manipulate the imported sounds to create music. Lilypond will accept music notation and export the result as a MIDI file which can then be played on any MIDI compatible device.

    Hi,

There are lot of free music creation software, from 8-bit trackers to professional DAW.
And we have openSUSE repository that contains many such software: DAWs, synth, plugins etc.: https://geekosdaw.tuxfamily.org/en/

    Hi,

"Rosegarden" is kind of what we were looking for:
    https://www.rosegardenmusic.com/

It's a bit on the complicated side though.
Perhaps you know of something similar that is more for beginners?

    Thanks!

Beginners at what? Rosegarden is so comprehensive; what do you actually want to do?

I used to use Master Tracks Pro years and years ago on an Atari 1040ST.
I haven't done anything like this in a couple of decades now.
Doing a quick search QTractor appears to be a good piece of software

No matter which software you choose there is going to be a steep learning curve.

    Hi,

We are a very small indie game studio...

Music is just ridiculously expensive on www.fiverr.com
(a single music soundtrack for one single game project can cost over $1000 USD)

We have good video game music stuck in our heads, just need the best software to get it into the games.
    Looking for the following:
    - Choose from any MIDI instrument
    - Place notes on screen to play each MIDI instrument
    - Export MIDI based song to standard OGG or MP3 file format
    - BONUS: Support for USB MIDI keyboard to enter notes

Check out our Linux friendly website below to see what we are about:

    Thanks!

    - Choose from any MIDI instrument
Do you mean LV2/VST instrument or smth else?

Place notes on screen to play each MIDI instrument
    Scores or Pianoroll?

If you ok with pianoroll and no scores then I can recommend qtractor, muse and zrythm for such tasks.
