Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 can not be found

Hi. I've been suffering with the installation process of my Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 scanner on a newly installed version of openSUSE Leap 15.2 for the past two days now. Not looking at that, the scanner still has not been detected by the system as a whole.
First I installed the updates and then the original driver from the Canon website (scangearmp2-3.70-1-rpm) - useless. The commands lsusb and dmesg detect the scanner but the GUIs don't.
Only recently have I discovered that the current version of preinstalled in openSUSE sane-backends 1.0.27 package doesn't support the specific scanner, but there is the most recent 1.0.30 version on the Sane website, which does support my scanner, but I cannot find out a way of installing that into openSUSE (I have never installed anything directly from the source).
Can someone please help me in this situation, or find a solution?

Hello and welcome here. Please note that it is not advisable to keep most information secret. When you did lsusb and dmesg, do not tell your conclusions, but post that output. Only so can others come with suggestions because they may detect things you didn't. After all, that is part of the reason you came here; to take advanage of otherones expertise.

The proprietary Canon scanner driver requires that you use the 'scangearmp2' GUI front-end as sauerland has already hinted at. However, as you have already mentioned in your opening post, there is recent SANE driver support using the pxima backend. If you want to try upgrading SANE, my suggestion is to reach for community repo/packages (eg Sauerland repo)...

However it says Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key

My GUI utilites like Xsane or Skanlite in chorus say that the scanner has not been found.

For the Canon driver did you try scangearmp2 as already advised?

Refer to 'Show Community Packages' under the respective distro version. User sauerland maintains a repo with 1.0.31 version.

Ah, missed your earlier reply re scangearmp2. As you now likely realise, the Canon proprietary driver can only be used with it's scangearmp2 GUI.

Shall we consider this solved? Or are you still driven to trying the SANE pixma driver?
