black screen after instalation

I just did a new installation with KDE, but the PC
Starts and stops on the black screen offering:

give root password for maintenance
(or press ctrl-D to continue):

what can I do?

Sorry, I couldn’t wait and I logged in as root and typed

fsck.ext4 /dev/sda4

Dozens of errors were presented and I asked to repair:
sda4 is my home and
after that the system worked
But will this installation be reliable?

Maybe, maybe not.

My advice:

  • frequent backups
  • use smartd
and/or smartctl to closely monitor the health of the storage device
  • regularly look for any system errors with journalctl
    and dmesg; for example:```
journalctl -p 0…3 # shows warnings and errors only

If you can, maybe do an identical install on a free disk/partition/virtual machine and compare the results.

Thank you very much
