Lightbulb Which printer brand works best with openSUSE Tumbleweed(Linux)?

    Hi,

My old Epson printer died just now...

Which printer brand works best with openSUSE Tumbleweed(Linux).
Need a new inkjet printer with scanner and fax - something that is plug and play on Linux.

    Please let me know, thanks!

Samsung works fine, Epson works fine.
HP has been trial and error - there are too many versions - there must be 3000 different drivers.
The HP is supposed to be the easiest, I don't agree.

All are easy to install just bring up a browser and go to 127.0.0.1:631 to install a printer.

Linux since 1995 (mandrake, redhat, fedora, centos, now OpenSUSE)

Worst: Canon, terrible customer support attitude. I won't buy anything it makes ever again.

HP as a matter of policy I won't buy, too big a company and products too cheaply made for me to patronize absent other options.

Brother is my current, and I would buy again, in part due to better legacy support than any but Epson, which AFAIK doesn't make lasers.

    Hi,

A family member had a never used HP OfficeJet 3830.
    Pretty straightforward install on Tumbleweed.
Everything seems to be working, thanks!

Just to say that I have used Turboprint now for some years with very good success even with Canon printers, I know it's commercial and I'm not associated with it in any way other than a satisfied user and is the only commercial s/w I use. If you are having a problem then it's worth a look as it might get you out of a hole! It does have a 30 day free trial.

Searching the net, which brand and models that are working in linux will help.
Here, I have HP, Canon and Brother. I was able to make it work in linux.
My favorite is "brother". I have two of this, all working.
    Very efficient with the ink.

For future reference you could check on the "OpenPrinting Database" https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/ope.../databaseintro to obtain an indication of Linux support for a printer you were considering...

    @JeZ-l-Lee:

If you've purchased a network (Ethernet or WLAN/WiFi) printer then:
    1. In ‘/etc/nsswitch.conf’ make sure that the following line is present: “hosts: files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns”
    2. Enable the following systemd services:

    • avahi-daemon.service
    • dbus-org.freedesktop.Avahi.service
    • avahi-daemon.socket

Make sure that the Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD systemd services have started and, are running.
CUPS and YaST should then be able to automatically find your printer on the network and configure it.
