Default X11: Radeon HD 4670 cannot set anymore 1600x1200 after grub update

    Hello

    I'm using leap 15.1 and leap 15.0 with a resolution of 1600x1200
Now I had to "recover" my old opensuse 11.4 version to compile some old stuff which compiles only with 11.4

For that I had to reinstall grub2.
Now my leap 15.1 and 15.0 version cannot set anymore 1600x1200 resolution.
    They reach only 1024x768
    Already sddm has low resolution

I'v also seen that in grub.cfg the entry
    gfxpayload=keep
    is set which could affect

Because not working I've updated system to new kernel but still not working.
Output is of 15.1, (on 15.0 I have still same kernel as before but no old X11 log for working version...)

    [/QUOTE]

The boot messages before too were at a higher resolution that now ...

X11 monitor file has nothing configured...

    What could be the problem?

Default Re: X11: Radeon HD 4670 cannot set anymore 1600x1200 after grub update

I am doubting that it is "grub" that affects graphic resolution.

In Yast bootloader, you could try checking the box "use serial console". That way, "grub" should not do anything to graphics.

Both modestly newer and modestly older Radeons are working as expected here on 15.1. Following is from older HD2400 and 1600x1200 on DVI:
    Code:
    # xrandr | head -n5
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 1200, maximum 8192 x 8192
DIN disconnected primary (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
    DVI-0 connected 1600x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 367mm x 275mm
       1600x1200 60.00*+
       1280x1024 75.02 60.02
    # inxi -V | head -n1
    inxi 3.0.37-00 (2019-11-19)
    # inxi -GxxS

I really don't understand what happened.
Today I remembered that I've installed grub to other disk to test and booted 15.1 with this hd (both hd connected)
    The 15.1 booted with 1600x1200
After saving Xorg I booted from other hd and now it works.
Rebooted everything to have the problem again but no chance :-(

So I really have no idea why the sistems started almost all with 1024x768 and now the are starting again with 1600x1200
Still confused what has been the problem...

I could post differences of xorg.log of bad and good one if you want and the whole log of the good one or bad one ....
    Let me know

Save a good one, and if it happens again, upload the good and the bad.
