Thread: dongle device driver for rtl8192eu

  1. #1

Lightbulb dongle device driver for rtl8192eu

The driver rtl8xxxu is not working for my dynamode usb dongle (rtl8192eu) but this one yes and I'd like to be included in the opensuse releases.

    https://codeload.github.com/clnhub/r...nux/zip/master

Is necessary to edit the makefile (line 78) to "cancel" the debug mode.
As I am not sure if this is the proper channel to make this petition, please let me know if it is wrong in this forum.
    Thanks.

For any software to be included in openSUSE there must be someone who maintains it in openSUSE. Are you committed to maintain it - fix build issues, answer bug reports, interact with upstream?

In any case, this is user to user forums. To include software into openSUSE you first need to find development repository for it; once it is agreed and accepted there, it may be submitted to Factory - if there is clear established maintainer.

It is better discussed on opensuse-factory mailing list; you may also contact opensuse-kernel.

But the best way to add this driver to openSUSE is to make sure it is part of upstream kernel

I didn't search too much and when i found this sub-forum I leaved the question here for comfort , expecting someone to show me the correct way. I will look for that, because I'm not capable to do that work efficiently by myself.
Thank you so much for your help, Arvidjaar.

    Please post:
    Code:
    lsusb
    Code:
    lsb-release -id
To see the ID of your Chip.
Then I can search for an driver or maybe build it.

Beat me why folks end up with strange wireless devices these days
These small USB devices are quite popular especially with PI geeks and so there is a plethora of devices working OOTB
I personally have bought a couple recently for just a few $ delivered. And they are fantastic
    No more faffing around
Anything you buy at a PI store will just work

    lsusb:

ID 0bda:818b Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8192EU 802.11b/g/n WLAN Adapter

And that one I mentioned was the only I could find that worked for me. You know its a little bit annoying, maybe not too much , to compile the driver for each new kernel.
Thanks anyway for moving the post.

    Your Distribution?
    Code:
    lsb-release -id
And please use Code-Tags for Terminal Text, its the small # in the Forums Editor.

The driver for your chip (rtl8xxxu) is in the kernel since kernel 4.4

I put that info now in my signature.
    Code:
    lsb-release -id
    Distributor ID: openSUSE
    Description: openSUSE Tumbleweed
by the way after installing it I got this notice:
    Code:
    updating /etc/sysconfig/atd ...
    setting /usr/bin/at to root:trusted 4755. (wrong permissions 4750)
if you know if I need to fix something because this please tell me.
And as I said in the first post the rtl8xxxu module didnt work in my system and later I found that one that did.
    Thanks for your response.
    /dev/sdb6 ---> openSUSE Tumbleweed x86_64

    Capture the dmesg output
    Code:
    sudo dmesg | egrep "rtl|wlan"
That might help us identify what the issue is with the driver or firmware perhaps.
