    It could be down to USB power management at play. Sometimes that can impact with devices like this. The printer may also have a power saving mode perhaps. When this next happens, try simply power cycling the printer before sending a print job.

    This part IIRC:

    Code:
    # Exclude listed devices from USB autosuspend (separate with spaces).# Use lsusb to get the ids.
    # Note: input devices (usbhid) are excluded automatically
    # Default: <none>
    #USB_BLACKLIST="1111:2222 3333:4444"
    Umm, sorry but I don't understand. My /etc/default/ directory holds no tlp file. Neither "ps ax" nor "systemctl status tlp" finds any tlp-processes. What am I getting wrong? Btw. this is on a normal pc / workstation, not on a laptop.

    How can I check out USB power management policy? The printer has a power saving mode (actually in several steps). That has never interfered in >6 years or so. But I re-awakened the printer (pressing the ready / go button) thus switching back on its green diode and internal fan. That didn't help when there still was that error.

    That may explain, I'm on a laptop.

    A good ArchWiki power management reference here...
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...SB_autosuspend

    You could try adding the following kernel boot parameter to inhibit kernel auto-suspend of USB devices...
    Code:
    usbcore.autosuspend=-1
    openSUSE Leap 15.0; KDE Plasma 5

    My thanks to you both. I'll try "usbcore.autosuspend=-1" if and when the error occurs again. And open a new thread with all suggestions of this thread already implemented .
