    Talking Introducing... ME.

Hey everyone, I thought I aught to introduce myself to the community here as I'm hoping to keep OpenSuse distro of choice going forward now. I've been playing around with Tumbleweed for the past week or so, and am really impressed! I've nuked and paved a couple times and now have a pretty solid idea of how I like the system configured and I've got most everything I need setup. A couple things that are "nice-to-have" hanging out there that I want to get working, but I'll post about those later in another forum post.

I've been interested in Linux since around 1996, when I got a book at a discount book store and started reading up on it. I knew all the "hackers" were using Linux, so it had to be something I needed to use too. Well, honestly I never got around to using it as my mom wouldn't let me pave over our Windows 95 Packard bell with it. Probably a good call on her part, because I'm sure I would have totally borked it at the age of 16 without the ability to know how to fix it. I didn't actually get a chance to install Linux until 1999 when I was playing with a system at a mom and pop computer shop I worked at right after high school. Still didn't have a clue what I was doing, and never got far with it. Fast forward about 6 or 7 years and I started dabbling in Linux again, but never made it my daily driver. Then in 2011 I spent my Christmas break installing Slackware onto my Macbook Pro and getting all of my software working acceptably, even Everquest! I used that for about a year before I jumped ship to Xubuntu, which I used for another year. But then I'd say I pretty much distro-hopped around after that...

Now as of a week ago, I reloaded my new ThinkPad T580 with Tumbleweed after listening to some podcasts (Ask Noah and Destination Linux). I liked what I had heard on them, and thought I'd give ol'Suse another shot. Wow, it's well polished now compared with the last time I tried it! I had some help from a fellow Telegram user, and figured out some of my stumbling blocks. I really think I can get behind OpenSuse and see how I can contribute back, and join the community. I've heard you are all a great group of people, and that's what I'm looking for. I really liked the Slackware community, they were so helpful and patient!

Anyway, I'm always willing to learn, so if you have some links to throw my way relative to OpenSuse please do so. I'm not a developer (yet), but definitely want to get involved. For work, I'm currently concentrating on learning Redhat since that's all we have (well besides Amazon Linux 1 and 2). I plan to incorporate some Python learning, as soon as I get through my current AWS training, so who knows maybe in the future I can contribute that way too. Either way, talk to me about the community and how I can get involved.

I look forward to talking with you all!

Thanks for the information! I'll make sure to check it out. Now I'm going to head over to the other forum and post a troubleshooting problem =)
