    Default Chef Client is running.

Every time i open 'Software Management' I get the message below.
This just started a week or so ago.
What the heck is Chef and why do i get this message?

Chef Client is running. The changes that you make
may be overridden by Chef later.
    Continue configuration with YaST?

Chef is an automation system which is not even included with SUSE by default nor is it available in the default repositories so you must have installed it from somewhere on your own or you are using a managed system.

Chef is a a solution to be considered if you're in a very large network of machines, for management and deployment

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chef_(software)

You're likely deployed in such a network and may even be using a system originally deployed by, and may be updated by Chef.

Recommend you talk to the Systems Administrators for your network to get clarification what their scripts will or will not do, my guess is that you should be able to install software which won't be removed, and that system updates you apply won't be an objection.

    But,
If your company's policy is to restrict the software that you run on your network, you should be aware of legalities and anything that might affect your employment.

I'm on my local home network, not a company network.
Would you happen to know the names of any of the Chef executables or conf files, or files modified by Chef?
I'm trying to track down where this all came from
