Default How to install Opera browser ?

    Hi,

If I install Opera browser by downloading the rpm from Opera's website will it add a repo for Opera ?

I mean will I get updates of future Opera release by using zypper ?

Then what is the correct way for Opera installation ?

Since I am using mobile broadband I want to use Opera's Turbo feature which compresses data.

Opera should be installable from the Non-OSS repo, and receive updates from the Update-non-oss repo.

Well, using opera's RPM is not incorrect I would say, but in general the first thing I would do when I wanted some program is looking with YaST > Software > Software Management (or zypper equivalent) if it is in already available in one of the repos I have. And then I would have found that it is indeed in one of the standard repos (non-OSS) that comes with the openSUSE installation (like Knurpht has said above).

Installing from non-OSS is of course as correct as using the RPM from Opera, but IMHO it is easier and offers less problems and more joy (like updates).

    Just for the record:

    • I use Opera. I'm not using it for this reply, but I do use it for many sites.
    • I installed Opera from the openSUSE repos. It is in the non-oss repo.
    • It updates just fine.
    • It is the same opera as you will get from the Opera site. It has been repackaged for openSUSE. Well, okay, it might be one version behind, but that does not concern me.

My recommendation is to install via the openSUSE repos (with Yast Software Management for example).
