    Default Anyone use Plex in Tumblewed?

    Hi,
    Longtime plex and opensuse user. I recently had to reinstall. I downloaded the lateswt TW last night, and boy does it look different. very nice, love the graphics and my system booted great (som ebugs like usb errors on first mount).
    I also noticed some major changes under the hood eg. susefirewall to firewalld , some new security stuff (more on this later maybe)...

    anyway to shorten the story, I have installed and ran plex on opensuse for years. But last night I could not get it running at all (latest version: plexmediaserver-1.12.1.4885-1046ba85f.x86_64) , I tried old versions of plex (plexmediaserver-1.12.0.4829-6de959918.x86_64) that i have had running before, and could not get them running on the new tumbleweed:
    Code:
    ID=opensuse
    ID_LIKE="suse"
    VERSION_ID="20180316"
    PRETTY_NAME="openSUSE Tumbleweed"

    SO I reinstalled this morning as i have in the past, fresh and new to try again (as I am sure my random trying things did not help the situation at all)
    This is how I installed:

    grabbed latest from: https://www.plex.tv/downloads/
    install by right click →yast, say ok to problem integrity.

    systemctl start plexmediaserver

    systemctl start plexmediaserver.service
    systemctl enable plexmediaserver.service

    Can anyone help me get is running?

    Default Re: Anyone use Plex in Tumblewed?

    I have been running it for a while without any issues other than the service occasionally not starting after a reboot. I am running the latest version. I can't remember where I got my original rpm file, but all of the updates have been downloaded from the link provided by the plex web app.

    The plexmediaplayer.service link in /etc/systemd/mult-user.target.wants points to /lib/systemd/system (and in case is the only link there) which contains:

    Code:
    [Unit]
    Description=Plex Media Server for Linux
    After=network.target

    [Service]
    Environment="PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR=/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support"
    Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_HOME=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver
    Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_MAX_PLUGIN_PROCS=6
    Environment=PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR=/tmp
    Environment=LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
    Environment=LANG=en_US.UTF-8
    ExecStartPre=/bin/sh -c '/usr/bin/test -d "${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR}" || /bin/mkdir -p "${PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR}"'
    ExecStart=/bin/sh -c 'LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/plexmediaserver "/usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Plex Media Server"'
    Type=simple
    User=plex
    Group=plex
    Restart=on-failure
    RestartSec=5
    StartLimitInterval=60s
    StartLimitBurst=3

    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    Do you still have a plex user and a plex group?

    The service status shows:

    Code:
    dos@DOS1:~> sudo systemctl status plexmediaserver

    I believe even without a firewall port open the service should start.

    It may be a permissions issue. See the SuSE section

    Thanks for the pointers.

    I got it running was permission error, i messed up step 4 below.

    for anyone else this is what I did:
    1. Download Here: https://www.plex.tv/downloads
    2. install right click →yast, say ok to problem integrity.
    3. Change user in these 2 locations: (for plex/subzero to work)

    • /etc/sysconfig/PlexMediaServer change user to your username
    • /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service change the user from plex to your user name/users group

    1. change the ownership of plex files: chown -R yourusename /var/lib/plexmediaserver
    2. Reload to make changes current without reboot & Make plex auto start, and start now

    • systemctl daemon-reload
    • systemctl start plexmediaserver.service
    • systemctl start plexmediaserver
    • systemctl enable plexmediaserver.service

    1. goto localhost:32400/web/index.html on browser (make sure allow scripts if using no script

    sorry i give up on formatting... :/

    You may find the following useful to avoid future breakage on updates.

    Thanks for sharing. Had exactly the same experience at a friends 2 days ago. Solved it about the same way. IIRC we forced Plex to run as the webuser wwwrun, to support some upload option.

    Hopefully this is somewhat what you had in mind. Figured since this post helped me I'll try to make it a little bit friendlier for new users and fix the formatting.

    1. Download Plex - https://www.plex.tv/downloads
    2. Open with YaST Software Management and install (Click ignore when it gives an error about integrity of the file)
    3. Change user in these 2 locations for Plex/Sub-Zero to work
      1. Change the value of PLEX_USER to your username
        Code:
        KDESU kate /etc/sysconfig/PlexMediaServer
      2. Take ownership of /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service by running (replace USERNAME with your username):
        Code:
        sudo chown -R USERNAME  /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service

    4. Change the ownership of plex files:
      Code:
      sudo chown -R USERNAME /var/lib/plexmediaserver
      Now to apply the changes without rebooting and to make Plex start automatically execute the following commands
      Code:
      systemctl daemon-reload
      systemctl start plexmediaserver.service
      systemctl start plexmediaserver
      systemctl enable plexmediaserver.service
    5. Visit localhost:32400/web/index.html in your browser (make sure to allow Javascript if using no-script) and get cracking on using Plex!

    And let's throw in this keyword for Google: tumbleweed (it was misspelled in the thread title)
    Special effects <- KDE 4.2 Showing off
    More KDE -> PINK KDE
