Thread: Compose key

  1. #1

    Default Compose key

    Can somebody shine a light on the rationale behind the frase

    In openSUSE Leap 15.0, there is no longer a predefined compose key combination because Shift–Right Ctrl does not work as expected anymore.

    https://doc.opensuse.org/release-not...x.html#general

    My question specifically is, why does it not work as expected anymore and why can't they fix it?

    Regards,

    Teuniz

    I don't know the answer. I'm guessing that there's too much variation, depending on hardware.

    Just define your own. I have it set to right-ALT key here. With KDE, I set that using

    Configure Desktop --> Shortcuts
    openSUSE Leap 15.1; KDE Plasma 5;
    testing Leap 15.2Alpha

    Same here, enabled through the KDE Systemsettings - Input Devices - Keyboard.

    But in KDE settings, you can not assign the key sequence Shift then Ctrl as the compose key, am I right?

    For me that's a pitty because after all those years my brain is programmed to use that combination automatically.

    And the option "3rd level of Right Ctrl" doesn't work (and yes, I clicked on the apply button).
    On another pc it worked one time only, then it stopped working

    And left Win key can not be used because the KDE developers assigned it hardcoded to application launcher

    AFAIK these are still X settings, so you might be able to achieve your combo by adding some option to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf
