Default Dolphin very slow / not responding

Since the last couple updates "zypper dup" dolphin is very slow and not responding.

The filesystem I used is ext4

in the journal I noticed it gets filled with
plasmashell[2002]: This plugin does not support setting window opacity"
plasmashell[2002]: kf5idletime_kwayland: This plugin does not support polling idle time

The system is installed on a Zotac ZBOX CI327

I wonder if the Celeron specifications are too weak in handling the openSUSE OS. Perhaps, using LXDE or xfce might make a difference.

Any reason for installing 32bit? The machine is 64bit, and as you can see the current kernel sees only 3.6GB of RAM where you say the box has 16GB . My advice would be to install a 64bit version, either Leap 15 or Tumbleweed. That would definitely speed the whole machine up, using the full 16GB of RAM.
