    Unhappy gnome-terminal won't open

20181009, running gnome-terminal from xterm just returns to the bash prompt. What gives?

Also this comment works, are users supposed to figure this out by themselves?

    Code:
    eval $(dbus-launch --sh-syntax)
    export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
    export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_PID
    gnome-terminal

No issues here, fire up xterm, run gnome-terminal and fires up as expected.... running Gnome DE...

    What desktop environment?

Okay, I think the problem was that running gnome-terminal in a VNC session for some reason ignores $DISPLAY, and pops the terminal on the main machine's display (:0). "dbus-launch" allows it to pop up in the VNC session. Not sure why gnome ignores $DISPLAY, but then again I'm not sure about gnome in general.
