Thread: upgrade to 15.0 but only leap screen

  1. #1

Default upgrade to 15.0 but only leap screen

after the two other upgrade I started the third
    On my Laptop=Dell latitude E6510, RAM=8Gb, GPU=GT218 NVS 3100M, CPU=i7 Q 720 @ 1.60GHz: with tri boot 2 opensuse and 1 windows and KDE. I tryed to upgrade to leap 15.0.
this is legacy boot, I uninstalled nvidia drivers, booted in 42.3 to check and it was ok, performed upgrade disabling all the repositories, during the upgrade refused the nouveau DRI/3D and removed the block to remove the mesa-dri-nouveau as I did here , the upgrade seemed to go well, but at the boot I get only the leap screen, no black but the bluish leap screen and nothing go ahead. I added at the boot "nouveau.modeset=0" and leap booted, with very bad resolution but booted in KDE, I tried to update but nothin to update was present.
the second opensuse and windows booted well
How can I get a working leap 15.0 with a good resolution as in 42.3?
    manythanks, ciao :-)

Default Re: upgrade to 15.0 but hang at started user manager for uid 470

pressing esc at the right moment I see that it hangs here:
    https://paste.opensuse.org/54659352
it seems that inserting image doesn't works :-(

    the last four are:
[ OK ]Created slice User Slice of gdm.
Starting User Manager for UID 470...
[ OK ]Started Session c1 of user gdm.
[ OK ]Started User Manager for UID 470.
..it seems related to gdm, I remember it was disply manager not user manager.
    ...what I have to do?

Since you updated online, maybe you are trying to boot kernel 4.12.14-lp150.12.10 that has DRM problems, see https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1104121
If that is the case, try to boot with nouveau.modeset=0 and then install an older kernel (4.12.14-lp150.12.7 is OK) and reboot to that older kernel.
In a day or two an updated and fixed kernel should be available.
    Main: Leap 15 Gnome on i7 4720HQ + Geforce GTX960M
    Test: Leap 42.3 (& others) on Core2Duo + GM965

Kernel 4.12.14-lp150.12.13.1 is available in the update repo, check if it solves your problem.

manythanks orso, I had 4.12.14-lp150.12.10 kernel, and I updated and a new kernel was already available and solved, now leap 15.0 boot fairly but icons that I put in the panel are blank now, it is easy to replace but is a bug?
I'll start the fourth upgrade crossing the fingers
