Default LibreOffice cannot open password protected file (spreadsheet)

    Hi all,

With recent upgrading to newer snapshots, I ran into a problem. Memory taken by LibreOffice (soffice.bin) keeps increasing but the document has never been opened when trying to open a password protected spreadsheet file. The file extension (xlsx or ods) does not matter. It is not caused by wrong password because I have tried with a newly created document with very simple password.

This happened a while ago but I could not recall the details. I can only remember that upgrading to LibreOffice 6.1 does not solve the problem. And the issue lasts to present. So I think the problem may not be related to LO but openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Does anyone know what is the problem and how to solve it?

    TIA

I have just created a simple one page spreadsheet with LO Calc and saved it with a password. It only opens when the correct password is supplied. It then opens correctly.

Are you "updating" or “upgrading”? What repositories are you using?
~Thank you for sharing an interesting problem.

    Hi, rayH,

    Thank you for the confirmation.

With your information, I checked my installation with a new account in my system. The Calc and password protected function work smoothly. But I have tried to remove the user-specific configuration folder (`~/.config/libreoffice`) with no avail. Then, I switched back to normal user and tested, surprisingly, it works.

    Still have no clue.

    Thank you.

    Hello, rayH,

Could you please confirm one thing for me? I recently found that LO would have memory leak when open a password protected spreadsheet file when opening it through "File" -> "Recent Documents". Opening by directly clicking the spreadsheet file would not cause the memory leak.

    All the best,
