Default Boot freezes with ACPI errors following openSUSE LEAP 15 installation

    Hi there.

Installed openSUSE LEAP 15.0 on a Dell inspiron mini 1018. The first Boot after installation succeeded with working KDE.

All following attempts to boot freeze with...
ACPI Error: [CAPB] Namespace lookup failure, AE_ALREADY_EXISTS...
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed... AE_ALREADY_EXISTS...

Perhaps the video system was messed up by auto tweaking during first boot.
Only the main suse repos are configured, so there should be no unstable packages

    Tried...
booting to s mode - same frozen results
acpi=off - seems to get further - freezes with three small green dots on full grey background (kde screen?)
pci=noacpi - screen just continually cycles thru non-textual garbage output

What would you recommend doing next to diagnose and solve?

    Thank you

Tell us specifically what video is in that machine.

You could try booting with nomodeset kernel parameter

At boot screen press e find line starting linux or linxefi go to the end of that line (it wraps). Enter a space and nomodeset press f10 to continue boot. this will start the OS with fall back vide drivers.

However ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface)is the BIOS/UEFI power interface and this may not be Video related. Maybe try turn it off in the UEFI/BIOS

Booting with nomodeset yields same ACPI errors and then subsequently freezes at three green dots screen.

Booted live and checked lspci - Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller.

BIOS has no option to disable ACPI.

Thanks for your help so far

Hey Folks. Does anyone have any further diagnostics to try?

I may have some news. I have a Gigabyte x99-Ultra Gaming board with Intel CPU. Nvidia card.

I installed clean. Everything was working just fine until I made the fateful decision to try to activate the LED lights on my keyboard so it would show up better. I started playing with xset and made a little script. At some point I accidentally got it working but I didn't realize it.

For some reason I rebooted. That was it. It spits out those errors and goes into Emergency mode. Ctrl-D to continue. It won't or root password which drops me to a bash prompt.

Out of habit I hit the numlock key and poof the keyboard lit up! WHAT!?!?!? I had been trying to update the BIOS to no avail and thinking it was a HD issue. So my guess is xset has activated something in ACPI and it is blowing it up. The kicker is I'm no closer to solving the problem other than I suspect it lies within xset.

Hopefully this will help someone help us. Ring a bell with anyone?

If you can get to a bash prompt can't you remove the script you made??? ie put things back how you found it.
