Thread: Skype 8.20.0.9.1

  1. #1

    Default Skype 8.20.0.9.1

I have updated Skype for linux to 8.20.0.9.1 but it does not start. Skype icon appears for a second in the system tray and that's all. Skype error log looks like that:
    Code:
dbus[5236]: dbus message iterator has already been closed, or is uninitialized or corrupt
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
    Server response: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"
Previous Skype version 8.18.0.6.1 works fine, however. I am using KDE.

Hi, I'm also using 8.20.0.9 with KDE (Tumbleweed). In my case it works fine. Therefore, it's not a general problem with this version.

    Best,

    Michael

If you haven't already done so, try starting skype from a terminal. You may get a little more info from there.

So, tried skype 8.20.0.9.1 with a new user account, no luck. The result is the same - skype icon in the system tray for a short time then it disappears. The skype log is the same as given in the first post. As for staring skype in terminal, I tried that also but unfortunately it didn't display any massage. From the skype forum - "I regret to inform you that it is not available on the new Skype app. The new Skype app doesn’t have any shell script. " https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...4-2c00b3cf186b

do you have the skype repo
    what's your repo list
    Code:
    zypper lr -d
    have you checked for updates
    Code:
    zypper dup
you should keep in mind TW is cutting edge and some apps might have issues with it

Just for clarity. Yes, I do have skype repository in zypper (https://repo.skype.com/rpm/stable/), and update through zypper dup.

BTW, I habe exactly the same problem on Debian "Buster" and Gnome 3.28 with skypeforlinux 8.22.0.2 (incl. the previous one, 8.20.x.x).
There is no console output, just the mentioned one in ~/.config/skypeforlinux/logs/skype-startup.log.
Just in case somebody figures out a workaround.

I updated Skype to 8.22.0.2-1 today. The same problem. However, I was able to start Skype as root, but not with sudo, but with root terminal. So, it's probably a permission problem, but I can figure out for now.
