My Plasma5 G41/ GMA X4500 desktop before & after upgrading from 20180203/4.14.15 to 20180320/4.15.10 worked and works normally, except for having to (before & after) work around https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1079607

    Differences that might matter:
    1-kdebase3-kdm is display manager
    2-plymouth is not installed
3-cable type is dual link DVI-D
    4-bootloader is Grub 0.97

So I'm fixed on my end. Probably not the solution for everyone though. I had forgotten I was playing with trying to enable HiDPI in sddm and though it wasn't enabling HiDPI after the update it was apparently hosing sddm from loading. I removed the offending line from the sddm config file and I'm up and running.

I got hit by this because I was using KDM instead of sddm to avoid that stupid onscreen keyboard.

I am having this problem too. I am running Tumbleweed inside of Parallels on my Mac. The GUI worked after I installed, but after an update, it just gave me a rtext-mode login prompt. As root, I ran
    zypper dup
    and reinstalled parallels tools.
Then after a reboot, it got into Graphics mode (Plasma). But the update widget said I had 516 updates, and to run zypper dup again, which I did. Then again, I cannot boot into graphics mode. Startx gives the following:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/b4plg2scxc...issue.png?dl=0

I have gdm, sddm, xdm. Changing among them in update-alternatives does not help.
ps -A | egrep 'X|land' comes back to the prompt, so I do not seem to have any display managers running.

What the message is telling you is most likely /usr/bin/Xorg is mode 0755 (normal) but needs to be set to 4711 (setuid) for an ordinary user to use startx. That's commonly recommended against due to risk, but sometimes it's the only way forward:
    Code:
    sudo chmod 4711 /usr/bin/Xorg
I have gdm, sddm, xdm. Changing among them in update-alternatives does not help.
ps -A | egrep 'X|land' comes back to the prompt, so I do not seem to have any display managers running.
Please upload your log. The easy way should be:
    Code:
    susepaste -n arome -e 10080 /var/log/Xorg.0.log
If for some reason that won't work, use any of the following with a web browser to upload:
    http://susepaste.org/
    http://paste.opensuse.org/
    http://pastebin.centos.org/
    http://paste.debian.net/
    http://paste.fedoraproject.org
    http://pastebin.com/
    http://paste.ubuntu.com/

    Pasting in here output from:
    Code:
    inxi -Gxx
once it's installed should also help us help you.

I have a box (TX x64 KDE, plain vanilla, nothing special running or installed) updated to last 4.x kernel yesterday, which came back after reboot with black screen and (non-blinking) cursor in the upper left corner. Tried updating to 15.0 today, but with same result.

Interestingly the vncserver (box used headless normally) is doing totally fine. Very strange...
    Kind regards

    My log is at http://susepaste.org/28870458
    chmod 4711 did nothing
I don't want to use startx, but it is not booting into graphics mode.
ini -Gxx says I am using the Parallels Accelerated Virtual Video Driver,
    Display:tty Server.org 1.20.4 driver:none tty:100x37
Message: Advanced graphics data unavailable in console for root.

Is that the entire inxi -Gxx output pasted as requested? Please when you paste, include the cmdline that produced the output, and wrap it all in code tags (click [#] above input window).

    Did you try init 5

You have to be root for startx to work since it has security issues
