Hi,
Longtime plex and opensuse user. I recently had to reinstall. I downloaded the lateswt TW last night, and boy does it look different. very nice, love the graphics and my system booted great (som ebugs like usb errors on first mount).
I also noticed some major changes under the hood eg. susefirewall to firewalld , some new security stuff (more on this later maybe)…
anyway to shorten the story, I have installed and ran plex on opensuse for years. But last night I could not get it running at all (latest version: plexmediaserver-1.12.1.4885-1046ba85f.x86_64) , I tried old versions of plex (plexmediaserver-1.12.0.4829-6de959918.x86_64) that i have had running before, and could not get them running on the new tumbleweed:
SO I reinstalled this morning as i have in the past, fresh and new to try again (as I am sure my random trying things did not help the situation at all)
This is how I installed:
**grabbed latest from: **https://www.plex.tv/downloads/
**install by right click →yast, say ok to problem integrity.

systemctl start plexmediaserver
systemctl start plexmediaserver.service
systemctl enable plexmediaserver.service
Can anyone help me get is running?

Seems it could not spawn /bin/bash
could not get group credentials etc… which is how I found the security center mentioned earlier

I have been running it for a while without any issues other than the service occasionally not starting after a reboot. I am running the latest version. I can’t remember where I got my original rpm file, but all of the updates have been downloaded from the link provided by the plex web app.
The plexmediaplayer.service link in /etc/systemd/mult-user.target.wants points to /lib/systemd/system (and in case is the only link there) which contains:

I believe even without a firewall port open the service should start.
Thanks for sharing. Had exactly the same experience at a friends 2 days ago. Solved it about the same way. IIRC we forced Plex to run as the webuser wwwrun, to support some upload option.
Hopefully this is somewhat what you had in mind. Figured since this post helped me I’ll try to make it a little bit friendlier for new users and fix the formatting.

[li]Take ownership of /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service by running (replace USERNAME with your username):[/li]```
sudo chown -R USERNAME /lib/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service

[li]Change the ownership of plex files: [/li]```
sudo chown -R USERNAME /var/lib/plexmediaserver
Now to apply the changes without rebooting and to make Plex start automatically execute the following commands
[li]Visit localhost:32400/web/index.html in your browser (make sure to allow Javascript if using no-script) and get cracking on using Plex![/li][/list]
