Default LEAP: 42.2 Custom setup e-mail client

    Hello,

After reading a few articles about creating "my own" desktop environment from readily available bits, I realize that I may have a problem with my e-mail.

For years, I have used kmail (from the 42.2 version of LEAP). I have kmail store my email as imap messages locally because I used to have problems with mail stored in pop files getting corrupted and causing me to lose multiple message. I know this is not usual behavior.

    I see two possibilities:

    1. Since I will still have KDE libraries installed, will kmail know enough to use the necessary KDE libraries when I am in a different desktop?

    2. If I will not be able to easily run kmail, what other e-mail client will recognize my local imap folders so I can see my current and stored messages?

If you need more information, please just ask.

    Thanks for any help,
    Mark

Before you move on: Leap 42.2 is out of maintenance. Upgrade to 42.3

OK. No problem. I have the disk burned already. I guess that is my project for tomorrow.

    Thanks for the reply.

If your repo setup is not too extravagant, you could also change the 42.2 in the repo URLs to 42,3 and run
    Code:
    zypper dup

Yes, kmail doesn't depend on having a KDE desktop - it just needs the
libraries. That's the way it is for any application - the binaries are
linked to the libraries they need, and as long as you've met the
    dependencies, you'll be fine.

    Thank you Jim,

That is perfect. Exactly what I need to know.

    Have a great one,
