Thread: missing dependences when installing pdftk

Default missing dependences when installing pdftk

I noticed that the current Tumbleweed is not easily able to install pdftk. First, I was not able to find it in the yast list. Then, proceeding via command line, I ran into a missing dependency:

    kadlecf@localhost:~> sudo zypper install pdftk
    [sudo] password for root:
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    Resolving package dependencies...

Problem: nothing provides needed by pdftk-2.02-50.3.x86_64
Solution 1: do not install pdftk-2.02-50.3.x86_64
Solution 2: break pdftk-2.02-50.3.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies

Choose from above solutions by number or cancel [1/2/c] (c): 1
    Resolving dependencies...
    Resolving package dependencies...

    Nothing to do.

At this point, it is not obvious how to install the required library. The solution exists, though. I have spent some time by looking for the appropriate package, and I was able to install pdftk at last via:

    zypper addrepo packman
    zypper install libgcj-gcc6
    zypper install pdftk

I guess it would be useful to add these dependencies so the user does not have to repeat my search.

Default Re: missing dependences when installing pdftk

It has been dropped in October, see

The reason was that it requires gcj (gcc's Java compiler) which is not available anymore in current gcc versions.

But as you noticed, it has been added to Packman as "workaround".
Btw, you shouldn't have to install libgcj-gcc6 manually if you added the Packman repo, "zypper install pdftk" should automatically pull it in.
