Question How safe is it to install from OBS?

I have been looking for latest gimp version which according to gimp.org is 2.9.6

Strangely when I go to https://software.opensuse.org/package/gimp I see some repositories suggesting that there is version 2.9.7

How safe in general is it to install from those OBS repositories (compared to official repositories)? For example if I install gimp from say home:Sauerland - can that be potential malware or otherwise damaging to my openSUSE system?

In general it is probably that most OBS repositories are "safe" ... but the ultimate decision is down to you of course, I would assume if anything untoward was found it would be fairly quickly reported.

In that particular instance I would regard that as "safer", if that's the term to use. "Sauerland" is a regular and respected contributor to these forums.

... assuming of course it's the same person.
