Unfortunately there's nothing in this small error_log snippet that suggests any problem with the print filter (or similar). You could delete the existing error_log with
    Code:
    sudo rm -f /var/log/cups/error_log
then try sending another print job and observe what is reported again.

    Thank you.

    Did as suggested.

I'm not seeing any obvious problems with the output. Normally I'd expect to observe warnings or error messages. I wonder if the print data sent is simply not compatible with this model for some reason.

Did you try configuring with a PCL6 driver as you asked about back in post #16?

Printing with PCL driver connects to printer, but results in a page size error, even though the document size is A4.

Just to recap: My original install was Leap 42.3. The printer (driver vers. 330) was working perfectly.

I did a direct upgrade to Tumbleweed. From then I have not been able to print successfully to the Canon printer.

I have installed/uninstalled via CUPS and also YAST Hardware Manager, without success.

Now I have re-installed Tumbleweed hoping the problem would be solved, unfortunately still without success.

This is going to force me back to Fedora, although I prefer OpenSuse.

If this is a bug, how does one report it?

The Fedora printer troubleshooting page I linked to back in post #25 shows how to troubleshoot by printing a test page and run the print filters by hand. It will take a bit of effort, but that might help with pinpointing the source of the problem. Your log output so far hasn't provided the detail required for a bug report.

Many thanks for your efforts to help me with this problem.

For now, I have reported the problem as a bug, as per your suggestion.

For the record, I installed Fedora 27, however still unable to print to Canon iRC1028if with vers. 330 driver.

Then I went back to Leap 42.3 where I was earlier, and printing is now working perfectly again.

Does this point to a kernel issue, or is it something to do with the installer not pulling in all dependencies?

Why would Yast in Tumbleweed produce a different installation result from Leap?
