Despite my previous reply, i'm doing as you suggested [though i respectfully disagree with your remark this is a new/different problem, given as i said it is now misbehaving identically as it did after that initial high cpu incident several days ago, & each day since].

In root's YaST tty2 screen, in User & Group Configuration, this message appeared on screen. It does not seem promising.
In /etc/fstab, there is a mount point for the directory /home, which is used as a default home directory for new users, but this directory is not currently mounted. If you add new users using the default values, their home directories will be created in the current /home. This can result in these directories not being accessible after you mount correctly. Continue user configuration?

Thread can be regarded as Closed now. i've Neon'd my Lappy.

Sincerely hope this mysterious & fatal problem does not also occur to Tower's TW. So far, it's still running nicely, touch wood [mind you, its Uptime is currently 4d 9hr, so if history is a guide at all, sometime in the next day it will freeze or reboot again].

Yes definitely. I've only seen your reply just now, several hours after you made it, but as i already indicated in my other thread, i had already decided to do that. Btw, your memory is pretty impressive!!
