Default adobe flash not working on facebook in chrome

I play some online flash game through facebook.

Since yesterday it suddenly tells me I need to update flash.

When I look in chrome which flash I have installed, its the latest.

Clearing cookies and cash does not help. Restoring chrome to default setting does not work.

Install chrome beta makes no difference either.

Starting chrome without sandbox does not help.

In firefox the game does load, but does not work 100% right.

On other sides I can use flash in chrome.

Questions, is it just me ? having this problem ?

Any thought on how I can fix this? I am not 100 sure the problem is at my side though.

there seams to be quite a few issues with flash (flash doesn't seam to work in Firefox 56+ on TW or LEAP it only works on Firefox-lts 52)
packman hasn't updated flash, if you really need an update get it from adobe as adobe has flash 27.0.183 packman has 27.0.170
but you'll need to remove packman flash before updating because the package names are not the same and you can't do an upgrade you'll have to switch both ppapi and npapi flash
adobe flash can be get from
    https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
or if you want to do it with yast/zypper you'll need to add the adobe repo
the long way round is to get the pgp key first and then add the repo then install flash
    Code:
    sudo rpm -ivh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm
    sudo rpm --import /etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux
// sudo zypper ar -f http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/x86_64/ adobe {this step might not be needed as sudo rpm -ivh http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/adobe-release/adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm should add the adobe repo)
    sudo zypper in flash-player-ppapi flash-player-npapi
afaik flash 170 is more or less OK it still hasn't been blocked by mozilla so it should work

Agree with I_A. If really necessary I have always had better experiences adding the official RPM repo for flash. That was on fedora through. Still new to opensuse.

But maybe ask yourself if it is really worth it for that thing on FB. Flash must just die now.

Let me start by saying, that I hate Flash.

This piece of crapware is for me on the top of the list of programs causing issues on Linux and Windows.

Because I am a gamer too, I also have win 7 on my pc, and this pc is build , before we had steam on Linux.

Since steam came to Linux though, I almost never boot win 7 anymore.

The good news is that chrome is working fine again also with flash on facebook.

    I am still in shock

The solution for me: Click on facebook on the flash screen on update. Then It asked me if I wanted to allow flash, and I clicked yes.

Problem solved, without any updates. Although I am happy its working again, I am tempted to start a rant, about the hours I lost.

I am also quite confused, on how this problem occurred. I did not block flash, and even tried to add facebook with this game to the trusted pages, so it would load flash on facebook.

Thank you guys, and I will have a look at updating flash for Firefox. I prefer Firefox over chrome, but because of flash issues, I was kinda forced to use chrome.
This topic might solve that problem too

You do realize that you are talking about FLASH right. FLASH is a proprietary program that Linux developers have little control of.

Yes I know its closed source, but I was expecting more people on openSUSE to have this problem.

I think facebook changed something, that caused this.

I know of one windows 10 user, who had the same problem with this browser game.

I don't know where you get your flash from as I said packman hasn't updated it's packages and chrome bundle's flash so again I'm not sure what version it comes with
my point was there is a flash update on adobe's site which includes both chromium (inc chrome) and mozilla builds (I'm not suggesting you replace packman's package with adobe's that's your own choice)
fyi flash does not seam to work on Linux on Firefox 56+ (it works on windows)
    https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1066073
    https://forums.opensuse.org/showthre...ing-in-Firefox
    https://askubuntu.com/questions/9617...-in-firefox-56
this is not an opensuse issue but most likely a mozilla issue I tried the solution suggested by adobe (disable hardware acceleration)
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2390707
    that doesn't fix things eather
that being said as I use Firefox 56 I don't have flash support even tho I have it installed and I don't seam to be missing anything

If I understand it right, I get flash from (through) chrome.

I switched to using chrome, because flash usual just works in chrome, and on firefox I often got a massage that my flash was too old. ( because they stopped Linux support)

For Firefox I installed flash from the openSUSE repositories, so I think that's the pacman version.

I have tried to get rit of flash. Emailed site builders, of sites I often visit, to stop using that ****.

The answer I usual get, and which I don't believe, is that they can't do with html5, what they can do with flash. ( they probably just don't know how to do it with html5 )

On the bright site, I am not the only one asking site builders to stop using flash.

There are different branches of flash, however. Chrome uses it's own flash, other browsers use npapi or ppapi. Maybe that game doesnt support every variant. Adobe has many versions, one of them worked for me, but it's not official source - when will we live normally?

actually Chrome uses Adobe's ppapi flash although they might have access to the Flash code as an internal deal between google and adobe
while in the past there have been roomers that google developed/tweaked ppapi flash it's extremely doubtful adobe would give away control to a platform they spend billions acquiring from macromedia (adobe didn't invent flash they bought it)
