    Default Kernel Version question

Linus Torvalds just released kernel 4.12

How is the version of the kernel determined for Leap?

    The command uname -r returns

    4.4.73-18.17-default

    Thank you.
    Regards,

And that is right. But .... Leap is based on SLE 12 ( currently ), so we have the same patches as SLE has. Most of, or at least a lot of, what's in the newer kernels is being backported.

Leap 42.3 continues with the 4.4 LTS Linux Kernel. The 70 plus minor version releases of the 4.4 kernel have improved numerous drivers and has brought improvements for ARM, ARM64 (AArch64), and PowerPC (PPC) hardware architectures. The kernel version improves stack guard and make those attacks less probable by increasing the stack guard gap size.

If you really want to run kernel 4.12, it's available in the vanilla kernel repo

    Default AW: Kernel Version question

I prefer the kernel:stable Repo, also with Kernel 4.12.....
    http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...able/standard/

For that Repo, there are some prebuildd Kernel-Packages avaible:
