Default Package request in official repositories: Zotero Standalone

    Hello,

I want to request a package (Zotero Standalone) for future iterations of Tumbleweed (and Leap). I looked for the package in the following websites:

    https://software.opensuse.org/packag...h_term=zotero#

    https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:Factory

    http://packman.links2linux.org/searc...=name&q=zotero

The browser version of Zotero works in my current installation (Tumbleweed). Zotero is a popular reference management software widely used in academic circles, and it would be great to have the standalone version in the official repositories.

I referred to this forum post about package requests, but am unsure how to make that request on the openSuse Build Service website. If this is the wrong place to post this request, please point me to the appropriate channels.

(While I am making this request, I want the thank the openSuse developers and the community. I have been using Tumbleweed as my main set up for the last few months. For a new user such as myself, the documentation, the info in the forum, and the thought and polish put into the distribution is fantastic.)

    Thank you.

Seconded! My University explicitly recommends Zotero.

    Hi all,

I wanted to mention this recent update regarding Zotero: Starting with the most recent version (ver 5), Zotero will be be available as a standalone application only. (See announcement https://www.zotero.org/blog/zotero-5-0/)

I think this means good things for the future of the Zotero project, and am excited about it. But it also means that before long it will be difficult (or impossible?) to use Zotero without the standalone version.

Of course, Linux users can manually installing the tarball or use an automated installer (such as this https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/126927/ if the distro is supported). But having it installed through the official package manager would be a better (and safer) option, especially for a rolling release such as Tumbleweed. Hence this package request.

(Once again, let me end by saying how much I appreciate the work of the developers. I use Tumbleweed as my daily driver, and it has been the most stable rolling distribution I have experienced.)

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I think the best way to contact package maintainers are IRC (#openSUSE-factory on freenode) and the factory mailinglist (opensuse-factory[at]opensuse.org).
You can also try to build it yourself on the openSUSE build service in your home project (same login as this forum).

You can also submit a "Feature Request" to https://bugzilla.opensuseorg.

Include brief reasons why you believe it should become a regularly maintained package in openSUSE.

If you have the initiative and capability to build it yourself in OBS, go ahead and do it.
Else, submitting to the bugzilla could lead to your request being assigned to or fulfilled by someone.

I have just made a request in bugzilla for Zotero, as this has not been done before, as far as I can see. Let's hope for the best :-)

There is zotero from community repositories to use: https://software.opensuse.org/package/zotero

    I recommend this one: https://build.opensuse.org/package/s...AZotero/zotero

The click on the download button brings you here: https://software.opensuse.org//downl...package=zotero

    Have fun

Any reason why the ones offered to you when you search https://software.opensuse.org/search aren't satisfying?
