Default Newbie question re: desktop updates

So, I have a question regarding updates to desktops when using Leap. How do I go about updating the desktop software to the latest version from the developers? Say for instance I were using KDE, and wanted to update to the very latest version released. Would it be as simple as say, installing the software from yast with the correct repositories, or is there a more efficient CLI method? I don't usually need the most bleeding edge software, but I like to be up to date in regards to desktop software in particular(I have Tumbleweed on another computer and enjoy it, but I'd also like to run leap on another machine). Any help is kindly appreciated!

Yes, YaST -- possibly with help of a repository such as KDE:Extra.

The question is: stable or blood?
Having asked that question, the applications available from the KDE:Extra repository are usually "stable" (no blood) -- a shining example is digiKam . . .

it depend what do you mean by latest?
LEAP is a stable release channel meaning only security and bug fixes are pushed to end users via the update repo
if you want the latest and greatest version of a desktop say kde's plasma 5.9.x you need to add the KDE:Frameworks5 and the KDE:Qt5 repo's
    http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...USE_Leap_42.2/
    http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Qt5/
if you want you can get the latest Lxqt you can add the LXQt:git repo
    http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...USE_Leap_42.2/
you would need to do a full vendor change to those repo's
afaik there are no corresponding Gnome repo's for LEAP only for TW
this is not what most LEAP users want they want a stable secure release
if you want to always have the latest and greatest move to Tumbleweed it's a rolling distro and the move is easy enough
