Default KDE messes my desktop icons

I know it may sound strange but every time I log in, all the icons are randomly placed on the desktop and I have to set them in place again, and this happens every time I log in. Sometimes only a few icons are scattered and the rest are in the place I left them during the last session.

I've already reported this behaviour in the KDE forum : https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=289&t=138825 but no one has yet replied to me.

    I am equipped with
    • open Suse Leap 42.2
    • kde plasma 5.8.3
    • kde framework 5.26.0
    • qt 5.6.1

The desktop is a folder view and the icons are arranged in columns, aligned to the left, unsorted, folder first and unlocked. (I also tryed to select and lock them in place but nothing changed)

Any ideas? I started to think to write a script to set them in place on login if its possible.

    Cheers,

Locking the icons usually fixes this for me. However, if you change
the screen resolution, that is guaranteed to mess things up.

    Thanks for the reply,
I've checked the resolution right now: 1920x1080 and I'm sure I never changed that value. Locking the icons does not fix this problem, I've tried also to select the icons before locking them but nothing change.
Is it possible that exists a routine that changes and sets the resolution to 1920x1080 at the startup?

I've discovered another way of scrambling the icons - change the
display manager, e.g. from sddm to lightdm.

I've also discovered where the icon positions are stored, it's in
    ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc.
If you get the icons how you like, then make a copy of this file to a
safe place, you can use it to recover from a disaster. Unfortunately
the desktop does not redraw when you just copy your backup into
..config. You also have to restart KDE, e.g. by logging out then
back in. (Anybody know a more convenient way to do it?)

    I use SDDM.
I'll make a copy of the configuration file hoping for a fix with the next updates
    Thank you Ian.

I have a similar problem as danfloyd111, even after upgrade to Leap 42.3. Using SDDM all the time, and locking the icons hasn't help so far.

Maybe it has something to do with update? I run zypper patch/up regularly, but I cannot say that there is direct impact between update of X/kde/graphic drivers or something... I have no clue what causes the icon chaos.
