Hi,
since about a week I am experiencing a lot of plasmashell freezes (several times a day).
Never had this problem before.
Initially I had it only on my PC at home, so I blamed the AMD GPU driver, but since today I have the same also on my laptop (Intel GPU).
Solution is simply to kill and restart plasmashell, as the rest of the system is perfectly responsive.
I am on plasmashell 5.8.5.
Anybody else seeing this? Hints?
Thank you in advance.
Cris
There’s a lot of discussion on the mailing list regarding similar problems… various plasma freezes etc…
https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2017-01/msg00275.html would be a good starting point.

I am copying here a post by Luca Beltrame, which has the final words on this problem.
I hope this helps others having this problem, so that they know what to do without having to read the whole lengthy thread in the mailing list.
As stated in the other thread (not only for you, but all those who
follow up): the freeze only occurs with DRI2 and is caused by an Xorg
bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99333
It doesn’t occur on all systems (on my TW install at work, always; here
at home, never).
It has been already fixed, and packages are in the queue for TW, so it
will arrive sooner or later.
As a workaround, you may want to try enabling DRI3 (beware, that may
cause other issues) for your driver.

Yes, the fix is released for TW today with snapshot 20170118 with X server 1.19.1. Maybe this shouldn’t be a problem any longer.
