Thread: xfce-terminal zombie process

  1. #1

    Default xfce-terminal zombie process

    Why do I have a zombie process upon opening a xfce-terminal, always:

    Code:
    $ps -el
    0 R  1000  3979  2370  0  80   0 - 195137 -     ?        00:00:00 xfce4-terminal
    1 Z  1000  3985  3979  0  80   0 -     0 -      ?        00:00:00 xfce4-terminal <defunct>

    or

    $ps lx
    0  1000  3979  2370  20   0 781060 55424 -      Rl   ?          0:00 xfce4-terminal
    1  1000  3985  3979  20   0      0     0 -      Z    ?          0:00 [xfce4-terminal] <defunct>
    Some imported SUSE bug/issue?
    Because I don't have it at openSuse 13.2 & Tumbleweed but experience it at Leap 42.2 only in both cases - upgrades from 13.2 and fresh new installs.
    Irritating.

    Perhaps an XFCE bug (as distinct from a SUSE bug).

    Honestly, this is nothing to be concerned about. The zombie process is using very little.

    Whenever a process ends, a zombie process is left behind. It is mostly a place holder with a small amount of information about the process that ends. The originating process is supposed to occasionally check for that. And when it does, the zombie goes away.
    openSUSE Leap 15.1; KDE Plasma 5;
