Thread: Ram usage in KDE

    Post Ram usage in KDE

Hey everyone! I noticed that memory usage quite high even if i run only web browser. I checked the 'free' command and that's what it said:
total used free shared buff/cache available
    Mem ~16 GB ~2.5 GB ~7 GB ~15 GB ~ 7 GB ~12 GB
    Swap 2 GB 0 2 GB

So my question is: is it ok that buff/cashe is so big? And does the high cache affect something?

Yes, unused RAM is wasted RAM.

These are kernel caches/buffers btw, nothing to do with KDE.

Yes, it should speed up your system...

That is normal Linux hates wasted memory so will use it for cache. The cache will be released if a process needs it's bit of memory.
