I have two mail account, each one with a different identity, in kmail
When I click to write a new mail, the From address cannot be changed and is autocompleted with the identity from the account I am currently viewing.
Before, I had a dropdown list and I could select another identity.

You should be able to enable/disable this dropdown list in the composer’s “View” menu.
