Thread: Charging your iPhoone on OpenSUSE

Default Charging your iPhoone on OpenSUSE

I have often wondered how I could charge my iPhone on OpenSuse. By plugging it in doesn't work, nor does installing a bunch of USB packages. I found a program that does and installed it on Tumbleweed. See: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/04/i...-on-ubuntu-fix

I found that you do need to install a couple of packages via the Software Manager. A simple make to get going. While they talk about Ubuntu its simple to get going.

    Hi
I've had it (ipad_charge) packaged up for a couple of years...?

No reports of it not working...

you need an app to charge an iphone?
doesn't the usb standard say something about voltage and currents those are hardware not OS dependent, I just plugin an android and it charges it doesn't matter if I'm on opensuse or 7 or xp

I tried to install this package, but it gives a warning during installation and can not see any functionality on my system. the iphone still does not charge on any USB port.

did you add the repo or just pull the rpm
read the warning if it's a signature warning you can ignore it or add the repo (which installs the repo's sign key) and retry

I downloaded and installed this with "sudo zypper in ./ipad_charge-1.1+git20150208-1.37.x86_64.rpm". I ignored the signature warning. It appears to be installed:

    S | Name | Summary | Type
    ---+-------------------------------------+------------------------------------------+--------
    i+ | ipad_charge | Apple charger utility | package

But my iPhone does not charge on this Leap 42.3 machine. Is there anything else that needs to be done to charge the iPhone on Leap 42.3?

Does that mean you can't charge an iphone by simply plugging it into a usb wall socket or a car socket? And these things cost £1000. Wow!

    Hi
What model iPhone, it only does the older ones... https://github.com/mkorenkov/ipad_charge

    Newer models should charge fine?

iphone 6+ and 7 charge on leap 15 and tumbleweed though slower
compared to the real charger. The machine should be in presentation mode
else when it suspend it will stop charging. I have no iphone 8 and 10 to try.
