theming issue and uinstalling MATE & KDE wont uninstall

I"m having a theming issue now. And it did work for awhile so im think thats because i installed KDE plasma and KDE env and MATE. SO i wanted to uninstall both completely but it giving me bunch of warnings. So how can i fix this please

The right clik the highlight does show its just white. I want my openSUSE back

What gives you which warnings?

Though uninstalling KDE and MATE won't fix anything I suppose...

Did you break the system completely?

None of the themes work even the out of the box ones

When i try to uninstall both the KDE and MATE's it gives me warnings. I can't take screen shot of it to unless you want 15 screenshots

Its possible the system is broken just don't know how that happend, its possable it broke when i installed both KDE and MATE. Since the one person on here who replied told me to go with option 3 in my one post

Provide at least an example.

Maybe the packages are required by something else, the corresponding patterns e.g.

And in case I wasn't clear enough: I would not recommend to uninstall KDE *and* MATE. There probably won't be much left of your graphical system if you do.
And uninstalling/reinstalling likely won't fix your problem anyway.

"I want my openSUSE back" sounded rather like the system is not booting at all any more.
Or you uninstalled your desktop(s).

The XFCE theme does't work anymore. I had a theme on there that i got... and was working fine. Now that theme and all themes out of the box are not working. like when you hover over the tab on the panel its supposed to be that theme color and its not on all the themes

And yes it was YaST But when trying to uninstall MATE and KDE it wont seems it tries to remove all of the environments even the XFCE which was my main DE i installed with openSUSE.

SO you are telling me onece i installed KDE and MATE you can't uninstall them seems bit strange. But OK I do not think that will solve the problem either but it might have been the cause who knows

No openSUSE can boot just fine into.

I just might have to do a fresh install i'm not to sure what happend

its beyond me

So your problem is actually with XFCE, and that's why you want to uninstall KDE and MATE?
You didn't even mention XFCE so far, so how should anybody guess that?

Hm, I can't really help you with XFCE, as I don't use that (don't even have it installed).

But probably this is caused by kde-gtk-config5, which sets a GTK theme according to KDE's settings on login (and XFCE is GTK based, like MATE btw).
Try to uninstall it, and XFCE's theme settings should work again.

Or change the theme in KDE's settings instead, in Application Appearance->GNOME Style (GTK).

That was just about a pattern. Option 3 should be fine.

No, that is not what I'm telling you.

Of course you can uninstall them again.
But if you installed it via a pattern, you have to uninstall the pattern too, as the pattern requires the necessary packages.

I cannot tell anything more without knowing the actual "warnings" you get though.

I'm going to try and post some screenshots later on today of the warnings. But there is a chance i might need to reinstall openSUSE. ckb software isn't working anymore either that might be do to from KDE and MATE install also

A reinstall normally doesn't solve problems, in particular not if they are caused by user settings.

I have no idea what ckb is, but again you should try to explain the problems you have in detail (maybe in a separate thread though), and somebody might be able to help you.

Whenever you ask how to undo anything,

You first have to describe what you began with, and then describe exactly what you did since.

From your prior posts in this thread, pls verify

- You originally installed your system with the XFCE Desktop.
- You installed a custom theme into your XFCE Desktop.
- You later installed KDE and Mate. It <may> be important to know which order they were installed, maybe not.

Currently, before you do any Desktop removal, I'd think that it's important to verify what your DM and WM settings are, if they aren't the defaults of your XFCE Desktop (which you're trying to return to), I doubt that your original settings would be restored automatically.

To inspect your current DM and WM,
YAST > System > /etc/sysconfig settings > Display Manager > DISPLAYMANAGER
YAST > System > /etc/sysconfig settings > Window Manager > DEFAULT_WM

On my default XFCE,
DISPLAYMANAGER is blank but currently set to lightdm (possibly to support remote X)(I wouldn't thought should be gdm)
DEFAULT_WM is set to xfce although curiously clicking the "Default" button sets to kde-plasma

After the above, I should think that you should be able to remove both the mate and kde Desktops(the following is untried), accept the default options

Code:

zypper rm mate kde

I would guess that you'll still be left with all the applications which were installed by each Desktop, and likely more... Most of which would then be removable individually.

As for your non-working theme, I can only guess that it is the result in in a Display Manager or Window Manager change, but could caused by something else.

Remember that uninstalling anything/everything is always a "best effort" by the Package Manager, will never remove custom files created by any app and won't likely remove configuration files for the app being removed.
This means that if you ever want to return to a state prior to installing something, in almost all cases that won't be possible unless you create a backup prior to changes which you can restore.
