    Default man without cups?

    Hi,

I'm new to OpenSUSE and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, but not new to Linux.

I'm trying to build a headless system with a minimal set of packages. I started with a network installation of Tumbleweed, and found that the "man" command was not installed, so I ran "zypper install man" to install it.

zypper wants to pull in 30 new packages, including CUPS:-

linux-zo9q:~ # zypper install manLoading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    Resolving package dependencies...

The following 30 NEW packages are going to be installed:
    cups cups-filters cups-filters-cups-browsed cups-filters-foomatic-rip cups-filters-ghostscript
    ghostscript ghostscript-fonts-other ghostscript-fonts-std ghostscript-x11 groff groff-full gxditview
    libXaw7 libXmu6 libfreebl3 libnetpbm11 libopenjp2-7 libpipeline1 libpoppler61 libqpdf17 libsoftokn3 man
    mozilla-nss mozilla-nss-certs netpbm parallel-printer-support poppler-data poppler-tools psutils xbitmaps

The following 9 recommended packages were automatically selected:
    cups-filters cups-filters-cups-browsed cups-filters-foomatic-rip cups-filters-ghostscript ghostscript
    ghostscript-x11 groff-full poppler-data poppler-tools

    30 new packages to install.
Overall download size: 44.6 MiB. Already cached: 0 B. After the operation, additional 122.9 MiB will be
    used.
Continue? [y/n/? shows all options] (y):

Is there a safe way I can install "man" without all these dependencies? I just want to view the man pages.
I don't plan to use CUPS on this system.

    Thanks,
    Robert

Not sure why the connection to cups or why man not defaulted maybe a recommended package. try --no-recommends option for zypper in

On the other hand maybe man needs cups to print pages to a printer. Never tried that so.....

    --no-recommends worked perfectly

    # zypper install --no-recommends man
    Loading repository data...
    Reading installed packages...
    Resolving package dependencies...

The following 3 NEW packages are going to be installed:
    groff libpipeline1 man

The following package is recommended, but will not be installed (only required packages will be installed):
    groff-full

Thank you very much for your help!
