Default Problems with GNOME desktop (dualscreen)

    Hi,

Im working with a dualscreen and i ve just installed openSuse on my
system. The problem is that one of the screen's resolution and colors
are very low and it looks terrible. Then I decided to install the nvidia
driver for the videocard (gforce 5200 fx), and thought to fix it then,
but when i start the computer again, the other screen that worked before
always gets no signal after booting (until the desktop screen comes -
before the desktop screen, this monitor is working fine -> you see the
computer booting and the loading screen)
The third thing I dont understand is, that when I installed the driver
Im not able to open the "monitor and graphics card" options. It is
loading, but after the loading icon nothing happens.

I hope you could help me.

    regards,

    me

    Hi
I'm guessing one monitor is driven via VGA and the other via DVI? You
will need to play with the monitors on screen settings as the card will
pick up information directly via edid whereas the vga won't.

Yes, it's normal for the primary (vga) display to run until the driver
    kicks the DVI into play.

Did you run sax2 from runlevel 3 to setup?

It's difficult to get this right. This may help you:

I use Gnome, and I have an nVIDIA 6600 driving a 1280x1024 monitor via
    DVI and a 1680x1050 TV/monitor via VGA.

I have two separate X screens, not a TwinView setup.

Both screens display during boot. Only the 1280x1024 display shows the
login manager (KDM - sic). Both screens display the Gnome desktop.

    Here's my xorg.conf - _it_won't_work_for_you_without_tweaking_, but if
you go through it line-by-line comparing it with yours, it may help you
tweak your setup or understand what's different.

    hi,

thank you for the fast response, I m not able to try it today, but
tomorrow I can try again - i hope it works then - if not, I'll write a
    message ...

    > Did you run sax2 from runlevel 3 to setup?

yes with sax2, but I don't know if I run it with runlevel 3 (I m new to
    openSuse)

EDIT: yes, one monitor is driven via DVI and the other via VGA
