KDE: How to separate status bar icons from different desktop

Hi,

I am a long time Unix/Windows user but I only switched very recently to
Linux (opensuse 11.1 x86-64 with KDE 4.1) as my Default boot option.
I try to use the 4 separate desktops possibility (that you can also
have under WinXP thanks to an MS Power toy, by the way) because I
usually have far more than a dozen open windows at the same time and I
want to group them by kinds (Mail,browser ; word processing ;
development ; …), but something bothers me.
In every desktop I have got ALL the “tabs” (?) on the “bar” (?) at the
bottom of the screen (the one with the K menu button), whereas I would
like to have only the tabs corresponding to the windows opened in that
desktop.
The guy in the office next to mine showed me it was the default
behavior for his Gnome/Ubuntu system. Are there some settings somewhere
that I can change to get only tabs for the windows opened in the active
desktop also in KDE ?

Thanks in advance !

Rightclick on an empty part of the taskbar (void of tasks)… quite hard
sometimes as you may have to close quite a few programs.
Alternatively you can try clicking on the very edge of the panel.

Select Task manager settings and in the window that popped up mark
the checkbox for Only show tasks from the current desktop.
If you want to squeeze even more tasks in the taskbar, consider
upgrading to KDE 4.2 it has the following dialog. (Which as you’ll
notice has a couple of new features)

Thanks, it worked !
Since I had so many tasks open, I never happened to see this dialog
before (or I never paid enough attention to the important line when I
right-clicked) !
By the way I have just upgraded to 4.2.
