    Default strange output to /var/log/messages

    Hello,

I have noticed a strange multiple output to /var/log/messages:

    Code:
    --------------------

    Jan 20 11:33:08 abs syslog-ng[2216]: Log statistics; dropped='pipe(/dev/xconsole)=0', dropped='pipe(/dev/tty10)=0', processed='center(queued)=814', proce

    --------------------

This have been going on for a month already. I never had any problems
with it though it might once caused computer hang up.

Do you have any suggestions considering what might it be?
    I am running os 11.0 on Asus P5KPL-VM, C2Q 9550, Asus NVIDIA 9600 GT.

    Thanks

It's harmless, it's just the syslog-ng daemon, which is what is
collecting all the messages for /var/log/messages, outputting the
statistics periodically. If it bothers you can edit
/etc/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.conf to change it, though I'm not sure of the
commands, maybe the stats(3600). Here is a blog entry by the author
    mentioning the statistics feature.

    openSUSE 11.1 64bit
    Board - MCS GeForce6100SM-M
    Ram - 1gb
    Drives - 1 200gb SATA, 1 250gb IDE, 1 DVD+rw, other usbs
    Processor - AMD64X2 5600

No overclocking or anything like that. Nothing special.

I have a similar problem and I don't think the syslog msgs are
harmfulll, but is there a chance it is trying to point at a potential
    problem?

My system will freeze completely and force a manual reboot, sometimes
more than once a day, sometimes not for a few days.

I was actually replying to this post on my linux machine when it
happened again and I had to reboot, looking at /var/log/msgs it says it
again that the point of the freeze.

    -- MARK -- *date* syslog-ng[####] Log statistics;

I would think that it putting the -- MARK -- in there would indicate
that it's trying to tell us something. If anyone has an idea what, the
first poster here and I would love to hear about it.

    Thanks

That's just the regular syslog MARK message to let you know it's alive
and logging messages, nothing sinister. Notice that it's regular, every
    30 minutes in his case.

If you have having freezes you might want to search the other threads
for freeze or locking to see what problems and solutions there are.
