Default HPLIP failed with status code 2

A quick search did not reveal anything helpful, forgive me if this has already been covered and I missed it. I'm new to openSUSE (and LINUX) and I'm using 11.1 with KDE. I'm trying to install the HPLIP and the 'make' command fails with status code 2. I've installed all of the dependencies except cups-ddk. This is not installed because I cannot locate it. cupsddk (without the hyphen) CUPS Driver Development Kit 1.2.3-65.105 is installed. Any assistance is appreciated. The full affair follows:

    magicnosegoblin@linux-y35i:~> cd Desktop
    magicnosegoblin@linux-y35i:~/Desktop> sh hplip-2.8.12.run

Thanks for the reply. I'm actually having trouble setting up my printer (HP Laserjet 1018). The library you propose is for previewing, retrieving, and capturing images from a range of supported digital cameras to your hard drive. I don't own an digital camera. I'm not sure this library would be helpful.

i had the same problem, downloaded and installed hplip-1.7.4a.run which works ok to run my hp printer. as suggested maybe 2.8 is in need of of the libphoto file to load correctly.

I had the same problem, but after installing libgphoto2-devel everything is fine with hplip-2.8. That's on OpenSUSE 11.1.
    Thanks maldmm5

Why would you install such an old version when suse ships with 2.8.7

HPLIP 2.8.7 is included with openSUSE
