    Default looking for FTP server

I tried the FTP servers in open suse 11.1, and I didn't like them, I am
alittle fast at if it doesn't go as I want it (uninstall).
What I want for my FTP server is both anonymous and account log in,
windows browser support, encryption for the account log ins, easy
interfase and as few problems as possible.

I am very new to Linux. And want to get away from windows.
I have looked at FTP on windows, don't know if its my router or
something, but many FTP servers have failed me in just be simple and
connect, result that I just uninstall them and go for the next one. I
found EFTP (encrypted-FTP) that I like for windows, well it is one of
the few FTPs I got working, I like the easy account, groups and
directory setup. I don't like the no browser support.

I would like to get to Linux with this computer I have, my first wall I
meet is this FTP. Can you help me with finding and setup the FTP server
    fitting my needs?

Not such a tenacious personality then I guess.

    vsftpd: ack
    pureftp: ack

    vsftpd: ack
    pureftp: ack

Of course 'easy' is in the eye of the beholder.
Why and which Windows browser needs separate support I don't know,
ftp is supported in all browsers afaik.

Think maybe it's not the FTP server programs that are failing?
Again: what do browsers have to do with FTP support?

You will most likely not find a polished GUI for any FTP server in Linux,
so prepare to board the text-config bus and hold on for a bumpy ride..

gftp is easy to use and has a decently intuitive GUI. You can get it by
copying and pasting this into your terminal: sudo zypper install gftp

Konqueror is also pretty easy to use as an ftp client. Open it up and
type in ftp://-yourwebsite.com- into the address bar.

    Good luck

tryed out yast ftp server pack, or what to call it. and I come out with
    a few questions.

I want to set auth. name, and password.
auth. folder with extra access (upload).

LAN connections for FTP worked, but not WAN.

so where and what to write, to make authorize log in name, password and
    folder for special access?

how to make the FTP accessable over internet?

I had a small problem after looking and changing things in to many
files and folders, that the FTP server will not start.
reinstall or uninstall and install didn't fix my problem.

( as for browser support I was talking about before, EFTP for windows
that I used before talks differently, most browsers just came up with
error 500 I think it was, elder FTP clients also had problems, Filezilla
what I tested with, the problem was solved in an update. tho I haven't
    tested browsers again )
