You’ll also need /home/yourname/.kde/share/config/kmailrc but, if my
experience is anything to go by, that won’t be enough. There must be some
other files out there that I’ve forgotten about since the last time I went
through this nausea.
Why can’t the KDE4 version do the importing automatically? I’ve had to do
this hand-copying a number of times in the past whenever there’s been a
change to the Kontact entities and am damned annoyed that a better system
hasn’t yet been devised.

I just today “migrated” Kontact from 3.5 to 4.1. What a coincidence
This is what I copied from my old system:
~/Mail, of course
~/.kde3/share/apps:
akregator knode knotes kontact kmail korganizer
~/.kde3/share/config:
akregator*
kmail*
korganizer*
email*
knode*
Copy those files to ~/.kde4/share/…
New Kontact now works with old data and settings, but I’ll probably
need some more files to copy, which will be revealed while using it.
