Just started with 11.1 and KDE 4.1.
Please help me understand which programs to run.
Firefox seems to be the standard web browser.
Dolphin seems OK as a file browser.
So what is Konqueror for? It does not appear at first glance to be
needed at all.

Certainly by using Firefox and Dolphin you may have no need for
konqueror at all. However, there are many users who may have spent
several years using konqueror as either a web browser and/or a file
browser, so it remains there as an additional option. You can always
uninstall packages you don’t want, or delete their entry from the kicker
menu.

There are a few kio-slaves that use konqueror.
Fir instance sysinfo, it simply won’t run in Dolphin.

Wait for the first crash on Java sites or the slow-down on a flash site.
You’ll instantly switch to Konqueror for the next few hours.
