    Default uShare, Xbox 360 question

I running openSUSE 11.0 KDE 4.1.3 and I am trying to set up a media
    server for my new 360.

I have installed uShare and haven't been able to get it to work. I
receive the following error message which I think is preventing the
program from running as a service (saw something similar in Yast)

/etc/default/rcS: No such file or directory

I think this is something that might be specific to other Linux distros
and not Suse. Is this correct? Does anyone know what I can replace
this directory/file with in the config file?

    Thanks for any help!

I guess I should add that I built uShare from source and didn't install
the suse specific packages. If anyone could help me uninstall ushare
that might help just as well. I tried make uninstall in the original
source directory and that didn't work...I'm not great from the CLI...

    Hi
Just run the make again and you will see where it's installing the
    files

It may have something to do with your interface not running in
promiscuous mode, another user reported that running tcpdump made it
    all kick into life.

The other one is not setting the xbox mode in the config file.

Then of course not configuring your firewall.

Thanks, I tried that and tried to delete everything and then reinstall
the openSUSE package, but that didn't solve my problem, so I'm not sure
    I got everything.

I saw these threads and tried them, though like the other poster, I'm
not sure what tcpdump is supposed to do. From what I could tell the
Xbox wasn't trying to communicate with my PC. Checked the config files
and was trying with the firewall off for now.

From what I can tell the ushare service isn't running. When I go to
Yast > System > Services and try to Enable ushare, or when I try from
the command line. I get the error about not being able to find
/etc/default/rcS I think this is a init.d type file for Ubuntu, though
it's entirely possible that I just made that up. I will try again
tonight and see if i can make any progress and post the results. I'm
not sure that this is mission critical, but it's the only place I knew
to start, then I'll work my way through my other options.

    Thanks for your help!

Nope. No rule for uninstall or deinstall in the Makefile. Grrr

    Hi
Have a look in /etc/init.d/ for a ushare start/stop script, is it the
openSUSE one or the one make installed.

    If it's the one installed by openSUSE, try starting it manually;
    Code:
    /etc/init.d/ushare start
If it isn't, remove it and re run installing the rpm.

Also check the rc.d directories for links to ushare that don't exist
(they will be in red) and remove.

Okay cool, that is kind of what I was thinking I just wasn't sure about
how exactly to go about doing it, but I am learning. I will let you
know how it ends up. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the help everyone. I reinstalled and got it working, now I
just need to play with it to get ushare running at startup and to edit
the start script to enable xbox 360 sharing automatically. The final
problem was adding the XBOX and my computer to the DMZ of my router.
